This always friendly and hotly contested game started in the beautiful sunny autumnal conditions at Belfairs Park.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Amblers made a solid start with S Ridgeway and Mohammed putting on 23 for the first wicket before Skipper Ward caught the former off the bowling off Aqmed for 15. After the fall off D Ridgeway for 18, skipper Dave Summers entered the crucible, and he rose to the challenge in gladatorial style.

Steadily, he built a partnership of 46 with Mohammed before the latter was bowled by his own son Aqmed- HIS OWN SON - (surely a fatwa is imminent with such shame on the family).

Unpeturbed, Summers patiently built an impressive and, if your correspondent must admit, quite stylish, 88 not out with Amblers mustering 203 -5 off their 40 overs.

Unfortunately, tea brought a very heavy downpour of rain and quite frankly bizarre incident of middle aged men trying to work out the Duckworth Lewis formula on various iPhones with little battery life. Common sense (or just complete incompetence) prevailed and the Lion were set 127 off 25 overs to win.

This was to be quite a one man show as Lord Dog of Dogshire set about the task with the verve and vigour usually only deployed on his parlimentary expense form. His 85 not out ensured the Lion got home by 7 wickets with 3.2 overs to spare.
